Mumbai: Kumar Sangakkara, captain of visiting Sri Lankan team, on Sunday showered praises on batting great Sachin Tendulkar for completing 20 years in international cricket and called him as the "greatest player of the modern era".

"He (Tendulkar) has been brilliant. To have survived the tough test of public expectation in India is something, which should be commended. The runs (he has scored) are an added bonus. He's probably the greatest player to play the game in the modern era and compares with the (Donald) Bradmans and all the legends of the past," Sangakkara said.

India-Sri Lanka Series-Fixture

"We run out of superlatives when talking about Sachin. He keeps getting better and better. Being that consistent under such pressure (from fans), especially at home is a wonderful thing," the Lankan captain and one-down batsman gushed.

The first test between India and Sri Lanka will be played in Ahmedabad from November 16.

Kanpur (November 24-November 28) and Mumbai (December 2-December 6) will host the second and third Tests respectively.

After the Test series, Sri Lanka will play two Twenty20 Internationals -- Nagpur (December 9) and Mohali (December 12) -- and five One-dayers at Rajkot (December 15), Visakhapatnam (December 18), Cuttack (December 21), Kolkata (December 24) and Delhi (December 27).

All the ODIs, barring the first, will be day-night encounters.
